New Delhi : Total investment by two public sector enterprises under Ministry of New & Renewable Energy is pegged 37 per cent higher at Rs 37,828.15 crore for 2023-24.

This is compared with revised estimate (RE) of Rs 27,547.47 crore total investment by the two firms — IREDA and SECI — for 2022-23. The budget estimate was Rs 28,570.99 crore.

The investment by Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) is pegged at Rs 35,777.35 crore for 2023-24, higher than Rs 25,603.51 crore in RE for the current fiscal. It was budgeted at Rs 27,572.34 crore for 2022-23.

The investment by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) is also expected to increase to Rs 2,050.80 crore in 2023-24 from RE of Rs 1,943.96 crore for current fiscal year. It was budgeted at Rs 998.65 crore for 2022-23.

IREDA was established as a non-banking financial institution in 1987 and is engaged in promoting, developing and extending financial assistance for setting up projects relating to new and renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency or conservation.

SECI was set up in 2011 to facilitate the implementation of National Solar Mission (NSM) and achievement of targets set therein.

Total expenditure of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has also been increased to Rs 10,222 crore for 2023-24 from RE of Rs 7,033 crore in the ongoing fiscal. It was budgeted at Rs 6,900.68 crore for 2022-23.

JSW Energy on Thursday said that its arm JSW Renew Energy Five has bagged two battery energy storage system projects totalling 500 MW/ 1,000 MW from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

The company will be entitled to receive a fixed capacity charge of Rs 10.8 lakh per MW per month for twelve years, a company statement said.

Energy storage system of 500 MW/1,000 MW means 500 MW of battery energy can provide power backup for two hours, giving total output of 1,000 MW, the company explained.

SECI’s obligation shall be limited to 60 per cent of the project capacity/energy and the remaining 40 per cent is to be managed by the company, JSW Energy stated.

JSW Renew Energy Five Ltd, a 100 per cent step-down subsidiary of JSW Energy, has received the Letter of Awards (LoA) for total 500 MW/1,000 MW standalone battery energy storage systems (two projects each of 250 MW/500 MW) from SECI, it stated.

Prashant Jain, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, said in the statement, “We are excited to receive the LoA for battery energy storage system which marks our foray into energy storage solutions. This is in line with the company’s long-term strategy to transition towards an energy products and solutions company.” The company has set a target to reach 20 GW capacity by 2030 and near-term target of 10 GW by 2025.

Around 1.7 GW of renewable energy projects are currently operational, under-construction/in-pipeline is 2.63 GW, and with the acquisition of Mytrah Energy’s 1.75 GW renewable energy assets the total renewable locked-in capacity of the company stands at 6.0 GW.

Indian power company JSW Energy Ltd (BOM:533148) said on Thursday that its wholly-owned subsidiary has received Letter of Awards (LoAs) from Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited for two 250-MW/500-MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The subsidiary, JSW Renew Energy Five Limited, will be entitled to receive a fixed capacity charge of INR 1.08 million (USD 13,290/EUR 12.290) per MW per month for 12 years. SECI’s obligation will be limited to 60% of the project capacity/energy, while the remaining 40% of the project capacity will be managed by JSW Energy, the company said.

“We are excited to receive the LoA for Battery Energy Storage System which marks our foray into energy storage solutions,” Prashant Jain, joint managing director and CEO of JSW Energy, said in a filing to the stock market.

At present, JSW Energy has around 1.7 GW of renewable energy capacity in operation and 2.63 GW of projects under construction and in the pipeline. With the acquisition of 1.75 MW of wind and solar assets from independent power producer Mytrah Energy, JSW Energy’s total locked-in renewables portfolio stands at about 6 GW, the company added.
